UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said they arrested two people who spent more than $40,000 of someone's money who they were responsible for taking care of.

Union police said 36-year-old Jason McGowan and 34-year-old Teresa Best-McGowan were responsible for the money of an adult who was deemed vulnerable by doctors, with McGowan named the victim's power of attorney.

The couple then spent the victim's money without permission, police said. Both were arrested and charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Union County jail records show they were both also charged with breach of trust worth more than $10,000 financial transaction card fraud value more than $500 in six-month period, though it is not clear if it was in connection with the exploitation charges.
