A Rock Hill man was arrested after police say he beat his ex-girlfriend for two hours and attempted to drown her in the bathtub.
According to a report from the Rock Hill Police Department, the incident began at an apartment on Main Street around 9 a.m. Sunday morning when 48-year-old Dwayne Fitzgerald Sims got upset with an ex-girlfriend for deleting text messages from her phone.
Sims followed the woman into the bathroom where he began punching and beating, the woman told police.
According to the report, he then began to choke her to the point she "started seeing stars" before he held her head under the water in the bath tub in an attempt to drown her.
Sims continued to beat the woman for two hours, forcing her to lay in bed and refusing to let her leave, she told police.
During the ordeal, Sims reportedly forced himself on the woman several times, and refused to let her get dressed.
He made threats to her saying, according to the report, that he "was going to slit her throat, wrap her body in sheets, and carry her off into the woods where no one would find her."
At one point, Sims got his gun and sat on the edge of the bed, loading it in front of the woman, police said.
The woman eventually began playing along with Sims. She told him that they needed to clean salt off of their vehicles, which they planned on doing that day, and was allowed to get dressed and leave the apartment.
She was then able to escape and drove to a relative's home and called police. Responding officers said they could immediately tell the victim had been battered.
Police then went back to the apartment on Main Street, and caught Sims as he tried to run out the back door.
Once in handcuffs, Sims told police they would not be able to find his gun. After a search of Sims' car and the apartment, officers found 37 .380 rounds, but were unable to find a gun.
Sims was arrested and charged with kidnapping, and criminal domestic violence high and aggravated.
