NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
An EF2 tornado, packing winds of 115 mph, touched down in Mt. Juliet Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service and Wilson County Emergency Management.
The tornado began on Glenwood Drive then moved east-northeast through the city before ending near Cooks Church Road. It was on the ground for about 4.6 miles and had a width of 150 yards.
The heaviest damage occurred in a commercial district around Lebanon Road and Mt. Juliet Road where one warehouse and an automotive business were heavily damaged.
The second and third floors of the Lineberry office building collapsed on Lebanon Road.
"I built it myself to take an event like this. And it looks like a freight train hit it. It's just destroyed. It laid the building down on top of cars, it put the building on top of people it's unbelievable," said the building's owner Dewey Lineberry.
Workers were inside the building when the storm hit, but took cover under mattresses, which protected them from falling debris.
Several other businesses in the area received minor to moderate structural damage. Significant damage to outbuildings, fences and power poles occurred at the Mt. Juliet ballpark.
Dozens of trees and power lines were blown down and many other homes received minor damage along the path.
No injuries were reported.
