GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The threat of severe weather prompted some school districts, colleges, businesses and churches to alter schedules Wednesday afternoon.
A line of strong thunderstorms was moving through the western Carolinas, causing trees and power lines to fall. The line could produce damaging winds, heavy rain and tornadoes, according to FOX Carolina Chief Meteorologist Kendra Kent.
Greenville County, Pickens County and Anderson County schools canceled evening activities. Anderson County schools dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
Wofford College closed its campus at 3 p.m.
Government office in Anderson County closed at 3:30 p.m. A public safety meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday night was canceled.
Some churches also canceled services for Wednesday night.
A tornado watch was in effect for all of the western Carolinas until 8 p.m.
