Red Cross opens shelter after Brevard flooding

Posted: Updated:
BREVARD, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The American Red Cross of the Western Carolinas opened a shelter in Brevard because of flooding in the mountain town.

According to the group's Facebook page, the shelter was opened at the Transylvania County Recreation Center at 1078 Ecusta Rd.

The message said the shelter was opened after evacuations were advised in the Davidson River Road area because of rising waters. That is the same area where a woman was rescued from the roof of her car after being swept away by flood waters.

Flash flood warnings were in effect for much of western North Carolina.
