ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

After a day of torrential rain, forecasters said up to 4 inches of snow could fall in parts of the North Carolina mountains Thursday night.

A winter weather advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Graham, Swain, northern Jackson, Haywood, Madison, Yancey and Mitchell counties from midnight to 10 a.m. Friday.

FOX Carolina Chief Meteorologist Kendra Kent said a system called an Alberta clipper will sweep through the area Thursday night, dumping the highest amounts of snow in the highest elevations. She said snow showers will last through mid-morning.

Kent said a few locations in the northern part of the Upstate of South Carolina could see some flurries early Friday morning.
