GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A special education school bus used in Greenville County went up in flames Friday morning.

School District Spokesman Oby Lyles said the bus caught fire as it was pulling into the district's bus center on Waddell Road.

Lyles said no students were on board the bus at the time of the blaze. He said the bus transports special education students and another bus will be used as a replacement during Friday's afternoon route.

Several other buses that were nearby at the time of the fire smell like fire and will not be used on Friday, Lyles said. He said those buses will be cleaned and back in service on Monday but in the meantime, they are rerouting other buses and making adjustments for Friday afternoon.

If buses are running late, parents will be called.

Local firefighters responded to extinguish the fire, but the bus was totaled, Lyles said.

The State Department Transportation is investigating the fire, though there is no word what sparked the blaze.
