CANDLER, NC (FOX Carolina) -
A Candler man is recovering after becoming trapped in a culvert during this week's torrential rains.
Floyd Johnson said the rains washed out his driveway and led to a clog in the culvert, which is a pipe under his driveway that allows water from a nearby stream to pass through.
After clearing the culvert, he said he fell in and got trapped, and had to go all the way through to get free.
"I was lucky," said Johnson. "Not many people live to go through this, but I come through it pretty well unscathed."
Firefighters with the Upper Hominy Volunteer Fire Department said that it was "remarkable" that he was able to get out with only a couple of bruises and scratches.
