LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police believe a resident came home while a burglary was in progress and was beaten before the home was set on fire.

Las Vegas Metro police disclosed preliminary findings Wednesday of its investigation of a body found in a burning home. The body was discovered in a car trunk in the home's garage.

Police reported the discovery about 2:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Glistening Sands Drive,  near Eastern and Warm Springs.

Investigators also believe the suspect or suspects made entry into the home through a window. The resident was attacked and then taken to the garage, police said.

The home was deliberately set on fire, Metro noted.

The Clark County Coroner's office was expected to disclose the victim's identity and cause of death.

Michael Sayegh lived next door to the victim since 1997. He says his name was Daniel, and he lived alone.

"Daniel was just a really nice, quiet person. I mean the last person in the world you'd ever want to see hurt," Sayegh said.

Neighbors say the victim lived at a dead end, and his backyard backs up to train tracks.

Metro believes the victim did not know the person or persons responsible and have not identified any suspects.

They are looking for the public's help. They say if you were in the area and noticed anything that could help or if you think you heard something relevant, please call them right away.

"That small piece of information could be the key that breaks the case open," officer Laura Meltzer said.

Those with information on the incident are urged to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
