GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Both Clemson and South Carolina signed more than 20 recruits during National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Clemson football coaches said they were excited about this year's class of 22 recruits, which features some of the nation's most talented players.

Among them was five-star recruit Mackensie Alexander - a corner back from Immokalee High School in southwest Florida. He was ranked as the fourth best player in the nation by ESPN.

Another big highlight from the day was defensive back Korrin Wiggins, of Durham, NC, who earlier said he would play for North Carolina. On Wednesday, Wiggins decided to instead sign with Clemson.

The day for the Tigers ended with the signing of Tyron Crowder, of Rockingham, NC, who is the nation's second-ranked offensive guard.

Locally, T.L. Hanna High School linebacker Ben Boulware was among the athletes that signed with Clemson. Boulware was ranked third among the best inside linebackers in the country by ESPN.

"I've been busting my butt since seventh grade to get to this point, to get this Clemson offer," Boulware said. "The fact that it's finally here now, and that I've put my name to the paper, [I'm] so excited."

The University of South Carolina football program nabbed 21 recruits Wednesday, but none of them were ranked five stars by ESPN.

The nation's 10th best defensive tackle Kelsey Griffin, of Buford, GA, and David Williams, of Philadelphia, who was rated the nation's 11th best running back, each signed with South Carolina.

One of the Gamecock's newest recruits was a familiar face to the Upstate - cornerback Ronnie Martin from Spartanburg High School. He originally signed with South Carolina in 2011, but attended Georgia Military College during the past two years.
