GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville man admitted in court this week that he tried to rape a woman at knife-point while she was working in her yard, according to prosecutors.

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins said Delgardo Ramsey, 38, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to kidnapping, attempted criminal sexual assault first-degree, assault and battery first degree and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Wilkins said on Aug. 9, 2011, Ramsey ran towards the 65-year-old woman who was working in her yard about 8 a.m. and tried to rape her.

Ramsey had a knife, made sexual comments towards the woman and tried to drag her into the side yard bushes, Wilkins said. The woman did not know Ramsey and tried to fight him off, using self-defense techniques to get him to flee.

The woman appeared in court and said she though her knowledge of rape prevention and self-defense caused Ramsey to run away, Wilkins said.

Ramsey was sentenced to 15 years in prison plus five years probation. He must serve 85 percent of his 15-year sentence before he is eligible for parole. The judge ordered an additional 25-year sentence if he violates probation.
