The Richland County Sheriff's Department has officially charged Freddie Grant, the sole suspect in the case of missing teen Gabrielle Swainson, with kidnapping.
The 15-year-old disappeared from her home in August. Swainson's mother dated Grant.
In January, a federal jury convicted Grant on charges he possessed ammunition as a convicted felon. Richland County investigators working on Swainson's case found the ammunition in Grant's home.
Since then, investigators have been searching for evidence connecting Grant with Swainson's disappearance. Detectives found Swainson's hair in Grant's home after obtaining a search warrant, and police found her blood on duct tape near his property.
Grant has been held in federal custody at Lexington County Detention Center. He was scheduled for sentencing on the federal conviction in April.
Grant waived his right for a bond hearing in Richland County.
