SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials said a Spartanburg County deputy was assaulted by a suspect on Saturday after a car chase.

Kevin Bobo, spokesman for the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, said a Duncan police officer clocked Nathan Self going 107 miles per hour on Interstate 85 and began chasing the vehicle.

Bobo said Self refused to stop, crashed into two other cars while trying to evade police and kept on driving.

Spartanburg County deputies joined the chase on Interstate 26.

Bobo said Self eventually crashed, took off on foot and punched a deputy in the face when he caught up to the suspect.

Bobo said Self was taken into police custody before being transported to the hospital for his injuries.
