WILLIAMSTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A man was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Williamston on Monday night.
The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. at 111 Old Field Circle.
Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said that deputies were called to the home because a man was apparently suicidal. He said that arriving deputies found the man with a gun, sitting on a sofa inside the home. He said that the man then pointed the gun at the deputies, forcing them to fire.
According to an incident report detailing the events of the shooting, the two deputies fired shots when he approached them armed with a gun.
Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore identified the man as 37-year-old Charles Porter II, who lived at the Old Field Circle home.
Skipper said the two deputies who were inside the home with the man have been placed on administrative leave.
The State Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate the shooting, McBride said.
