HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Honea Path police vehicle was involved in a crash Monday night.

The crash happened about 9:35 p.m. near the intersection of West Greer Street and Bagwell Drive.

Pictures of the scene showed an SUV with Honea Path police written on its side and a white car involved in the crash. It appeared that both vehicles had sustained front-end damage.

The driver of the white car told FOX Carolina's Dana Wachter that he saw a deer, swerved to miss it and crashed into the police vehicle. Troopers said the driver of the car was not injured.

The officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated, but was expected to OK, Wachter reported.

Honea Path Police Chief David King said the road is heavily traveled through town and his officer was setting up to run stationary radar checks along Highway 252 when he hit the car.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said the police SUV was backing up across West Greer Street when he hit the sedan. Troopers charged the police officer with failure to yield right of way.
