Richard Kesterson (Spartanburg Co. Sheriff's Office)
SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies said a Spartanburg man rammed a woman's car minutes after she helped him jumpstart his before he assaulted and robbed her Monday.
Spartanburg County deputies were called to a parking lot across from Spartanburg Methodist College along Powell Mill Road about 4:15 p.m. where they found the victim parked with damage to her car.
The victim told deputies that she had met 33-year-old Richard Kesterson to jumpstart his car and when she left, driving down Powell Mill Road, he rammed his Ford Mustang into the driver's side of her car, backed up and hit her car again, forcing her off the road into the parking lot.
Deputies said Kesterson got out of his car, reached inside her window and tried to steal her purse, threatening to punch her while grabbing her neck. At that time, a few college students approached, prompting Kesterson to grab the woman's GPS and drive off, deputies said.
A short time later deputies said they found Kesterson at his home along with his car and the victim's GPS. They said Kesterson said when he went to leave, he thought his car was in reverse but it was in drive, causing him to run into the victim's car.
Kesterson was arrested and charged with petit larceny, malicious injury to property and third-degree assault and battery.
