DUNCAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The town of Duncan has approved a new master plan to renovate and make downtown more "people-friendly."
At Monday's town council meeting, leaders approved a formal plan to promote downtown with tree-lined streets, sidewalks, safe crossings, bike lanes and an overall new look to the area.
Five blocks of Main Street from Spencer to Moore Street will be a part of the plan, which will include two pocket parks near Town Hall and redevelopment of current buildings.

The first park would be placed in front of Town Hall, where there is currently a small parking lot. Parking would still be available along Highway 290 and in nearby lots.
The second park is planned at 150 Leonard St. where Spartanburg County District 5 Sports and Activities Council owns a building surrounded by a grass field.
The proposed budgets for the two parks, streetscape and more could top $1.5 million with potential funding coming from different community funds, grants, the Mary Black Foundation and the South Carolina Department of Transportation - if approved.
The plans were first presented in January by Raleigh-based Stewart Inc. and have been supported by nonprofit Upstate Forever, city government and funding from Mary Black Foundation.
