SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The coroner said a 70-year-old Greenville man died after crashing into an earlier wreck along Interstate 385.

Simpsonville police were investigating a two-car crash on I-385 northbound near West Georgia Road about 9:20 p.m. when Anthony L. Crusco rear-ended on of the wrecked car, coroner Mike Ellis said.

Police said a Dodge Stratus was attempting to merge onto I-385 northbound from West Georgia Road when it hit an SUV. They said the Dodge pulled over and the SUV became disabled in a lane of traffic.

The driver of the SUV had turned its emergency lights on and gotten out of the car to assess damage along with the other driver Crusco hit the SUV, police said. Ellis said Crusco died a short time later at Greenville Memorial Hospital from blunt force trauma.

A FOX Carolina photographer said one car was flipped upside down and another was about 60 feet away under the overpass. The crash had traffic backed up for a while as crews worked to clear the scene and investigate the wrecks.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is helping Simpsonville police investigate the crash.

There is no word if anyone was injured in the two other cars.
