MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

Mesa police used a stun gun on a man who disobeyed their commands to drop a protest sign that had a loaded gun taped to it, officers said.

Jeremy Wiseman was booked into Mesa City Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and making threats.

Police said they had received a call that Wiseman had been disturbing a bicyclist just before 3 a.m.

Officers found Wiseman standing on the northeast corner of Alma School and University Avenue holding a sign that stated, "Stop the harassment Mesa Police."

While investigating the disorderly conduct disturbance, Wiseman approaching the officers, uttered a profanity and said, "Come arrest me, you slime," according to a police report.

As they moved in to arrest him, officers said they saw the butt of a long gun taped on the back of his sign.

Wiseman had a hand on the butt of the gun - the only part of the weapon visible to officers, according to police.

When Wiseman refused to obey orders to drop the sign, two officers deployed their stun guns.

After Wiseman hit the ground, the officers said they saw a loaded gun taped to the back of the sign, where before only the butt of a possible gun was seen.

Wiseman refused medical aid. The subject was booked into the Mesa City jail.

During a police interview, Wiseman said he had the gun to protect himself from Mesa police, according to investigators.

Wiseman made additional threats during the booking process at the Mesa Holding Facility. He stated the officer "was stirring up a hornets nest," according to the police report.

He also said, "You saw what happened to shooting cops in southern California," according to the police report. He also threatened that he would post bail and take care of "the problem," investigators said.
