NC woman accused of violating precious metal laws

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Hendersonville woman who runs a local metal business was arrested after undercover deputies said she violated county laws.

Henderson County deputies said Kai Leigh Calabro, 40, owns Gold and Silvery Recovery in Etowah where she bought precious metals and jewelry from an undercover agent but did not properly document the transaction.

A local ordinance requires pawn shop, precious metals sales or are a secondary metal recycling businesses send information electronically to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office when goods are purchased, but deputies said Calabro did not do this.

They also said she was operating without a valid precious metals dealer license and did not require a picture ID from her customers after transactions.

Calabro was arrested and released on $500 bond.

Deputies said they are able to investigate and recover stolen property by prosecuting people who violate the required electronic uploads sent to the sheriff's office.
