Good Tuesday morning! If you're heading back to work today after a long weekend, grab the umbrella and give yourself some time on the roads. You'll be using your windshield wipers and there will be wet roadways, as rain is falling across most of the area this morning.
As of this writing (6 AM), we've seen rain in the Upstate and NE GA locations... and much of WNC is dealing with rainfall as well. However, in SW NC we have seen a wintry mix of snow and sleet - already over 2" has fallen near Waynesville in Haywood County (3775 feet). Winter Weather Advisories continue for most of WNC through 10 AM, but I think problems will be primarily be contained to spots over 3500 feet. These locations could pick up 3 or even 4 inches of snow by late-morning. In lower elevations, a quick inch or two is possible early this AM, but the precip will likely transition over to rain in the valleys so the snow won't stick around long.
By 1 or 2 PM precip will be totally over, and we'll see clearing skies through the afternoon. So, there's a chance you may even need your sunglasses for the late-day drive! Winds will be breezy this afternoon - W 10-15 mph in the Upstate and NW 10-20 mph in the Mountains with gusts of 20-30+ mph. Highs will reach the low 50s across much of the area later today.
We're dry Wednesday with near-normal highs - then another round of rain arrives late Thursday and continues through Friday and early Saturday.
