ASHFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Chief Patrick Droney of the Ashfield Police Department recently attended the New England Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar conference, sponsored by the Boston office of the FBI.  The NELEED conference was held at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, CT.   The Seminar is one of several regional conferences held throughout the country and is sponsored by regional field offices of the FBI.

"This was an outstanding conference and a tremendous opportunity to meet and network with other law enforcement executives from throughout New England and New York," Droney said. "There were over 100 police administrators from the region. I was honored to be one of the only chiefs or other law enforcement administrators from Western Mass to attend the conference. I learned a lot."

Among the topics covered at the conference were "Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement," a presentation by renowned forensic scientist, Dr. Henry Lee on "Advances in Forensic Science," "Active Shooter Awareness" and a health and wellness for law enforcement presentation.

The most fascinating topic was a presentation by Colonel Danny Stebbins and Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police relative to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December.

"You could have heard a pin drop in the room when Col. Stebbins and Lt. Vance were speaking about Sandy Hook", Droney said. "It was an extremely emotional presentation, even for the most seasoned law enforcement officer. I'll be honest, some of what I learned was more than I ever wanted to know about this tragedy," Droney continued. "It is every police officer's worst nightmare, and as a parent, it is every parent's worst nightmare. It is vital for us as police administrators to make sure that we prepare as best as we can for such an incident. I think it's fair to say that this presentation had a profound impact on all of us in attendance."
