Green Hills store robbed by imposter fire inspector

Posted: Updated:

Police are investigating after a man claiming to be fire inspector robbed the Auntie Anne's Pretzel Store located in the Mall at Green Hills.

Investigators say Jan. 30 at about 5 p.m., the man approached and told a clerk he was with the Nashville Fire Department and was there to perform an inspection.

The suspect told the clerk a fee was required for the inspection, and after collecting the money the suspect quickly fled.

Officials with the department urge business owners to take caution if anyone not in uniform asks to perform any inspections. Also, inspectors are required to carry proper identification, and fees are never collected at the business.

"The most important part is there will never be fees collected in the field like that. We would never go in to inspect a restaurant or something like that unless we had a complaint. And we certainly wouldn't ask for fees," said Assistant Nashville Fire Chief Kim Lawson.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect from the attached surveillance photo is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or the Nashville Fire Marshal's Office at 615-862-5230.
