Deputies have identified a suspect in a scam involving two men who claim to be power workers and then steal from the elderly.
Investigators said that on Jan. 4, an elderly Honea Path couple were lured out of their home by a white man claiming to be from Duke Energy and wearing a reflective vest, blue jeans and driving a red pickup. They said that while one of the men distracted the couple, the other man went into the home and stole a purse.
Deputies said that on Feb. 2, a man fitting a similar description lured an elderly Piedmont woman out of her home, while another man went inside the home and stole jewelry and other valuables.
On Feb. 15, deputies said, a similar scam resulted in the theft of valuables and a purse from a home in Pendelton.
On Thursday, investigators named 49-year-old Jimmy Sherlock as a suspect in the case. They said Sherlock has lived in both Anderson and North Augusta. They said he was last seen driving a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500, bearing South Carolina license plate number IGY-460.
Deputies said they have not yet identified a second suspect in the case.
Anyone with information regarding Sherlock's whereabouts was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (888-274-6372).
