Stanley Davis (Anderson Co. Sheriff's Office)
ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The charges against an Anderson County man who deputies said set his mother on fire on New Year's Day have been upgraded after her death.
On Jan. 1, Anderson County deputies said 38-year-old Stanley Davis set his mother, Debra Davis, ablaze at her River Road home and then went to a home of another family member on Langston Street, where he was shot by the family member.
Debra Davis, 61, was flown to a Georgia hospital for treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.
Shore said Debra Davis died from multiple system failure as a result of her injuries and that her death has been ruled a homicide.
Investigators arrested Stanley Davis on Jan. 1 and charged him with attempted murder. On Thursday, investigators upgraded the charge to murder.
Stanley Davis is being held at the county jail.
