Knights want to play in Macon

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An angry Deerfield-Windsor basketball coach Gordy Gruhl was not happy that his Knights team was knocked out of the first round of last year's state tournament.

It is one of the reasons the Knights have their sights on making the final four this year.

Deerfield-Windsor has not made it to a final four since the Knights won their fifth state championship three years ago.

With nine seniors on this year's team, the Knights believe they have the talent to not only make it to the final four this year at Mercer but to win a state championship.

Coach Gruhl believes his seniors have learned the hard way of what happens when you do not play up to your potential at all times.

And his seniors are not ready for their high school playing days to end this weekend.

"Sometimes we've been there like 5 or 6 years and we took it for granted going to the final four. I think this bunch is very happy to get back there again. If we can get there then we are one of  four teams that's got a chance to win it so we've got to take care of those two games this weekend," said Gordy Gruhl.

"We are really focused in a dedicated this year and we know that anything can happen. We saw it last year so we're just going through the motions with alot of intensity right now," said senior forward Sam Shellhaas.

Deerfield-Windsor plays Weber in the first round of the GISA AAA Boys state tournament at 8:30pm in Macon.
