Winter weather could make for slippery roads in the mountains during Friday morning's rush hour, according to FOX Carolina Chief Meteorologist Kendra Kent.
Kent said a storm system moving toward the western Carolinas on Thursday night will bring rain to the area. She said the rain will change to freezing rain across much of the mountains. A mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow will be possible in the northern mountains, Kent said. She said the precipitation will change to all rain by Friday afternoon.
Accumulations of ice are possible, which means power outages and slippery bridges and overpasses are likely by Friday morning, Kent said.
For the Upstate, Kent said the precipitation will remain in its liquid form. She said up to an inch of rain is possible before the system pulls east by early Saturday.
The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory until noon Friday for Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Haywood, Jackson, Rutherford, Polk and Transylvania counties in North Carolina. A winter storm warning was issued until noon Friday for McDowell, Mitchell and Yancey counties in North Carolina.
