Tommy McGowan Jr. (Union Co. Detention Center)
UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -
An Upstate man is accused of stabbing another man in the neck at a house party Friday night.
Union County deputies said they were first called to Wallace Thomson Hospital early Saturday morning about a man who had been assaulted, stabbed in the neck.
Upon further investigation, deputies said the victim had been at a party on Bishop Road where he was drinking with others and the suspect. While at the party, a fight broke out but then everything calmed back down, deputies said.
A little while later, deputies said the victim was walking back inside the house when he thought 22-year-old Tommy McGowan Jr. slapped him on the throat but he began bleeding and discovered an open cut on his neck. Deputies said the victim was taken to the emergency room.
Before McGowan was arrested, deputies said another man reported being attacked by two men at the party because they thought he was McGowan. Deputies said those men beat up the victim, but stopped attacking him when they realized he was not McGowan, apologizing for their actions.
McGowan was arrested and charged with attempted murder.
