Moisture surges in with gusto tonight! Moderate to heavy rain will be possible for the Upstate, but I expect the torrential downpours to stay south of us. Temps at the surface could get cold enough in the mountains to bring a few hours of freezing rain. This would cause a glaze of ice in some areas. Travel in western NC could be hazardous during the early morning hours.
The morning hours (6am-Noon) in the Upstate could be a bit hazardous on the roads as well, but not for wintry weather reasons. We'll get some of our heaviest rain then, which could cause ponding of water on roads and minor flooding in general.
Tuesday afternoon should bring some clearing for the Upstate, while the mountains will keep the clouds and eventually get some light rain and snow showers mid to late week.
Late week and the weekend look REALLY interesting. Cold air will be in place by late week as a strong front moves through. Some light amounts of moisture will push in, that could bring some light snow for the mountains for Thu, Fri and Sat. Some flurries and light snow will be possible in the Upstate as well. If a low is able to develop off the coast, that could bring a BIG change to the forecast. For now, it looks like COLD and CLOUDY will be the main story for late week/weekend, with some light snow possible.
