GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A bloody dog was found chained to a tree in Greenville on Monday morning, according to animal advocates.

Susan Bufano, of Greenville County Animal Care, said the Pekingese-Shih Tzu mix pup was found behind a coffee shop on North Pleasantburg Drive. She said someone took the dog to the shelter.

Bufano said the dog was in bad shape when it arrived.

"We immediately shaved him," Bufano said. "We flushed all the wounds out, gave him pain medicine and antibiotics and stabilized him until we got a rescue group to come and get him."

Bufano said veterinarians believe the dog was injured after he was run over or dragged.

The dog will need to have one of his legs and his tail amputated, Bufano said.
