UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they charged a Union man with reckless driving after they clocked him going 97 mph, to which he replied he felt a "need for speed."

Union County deputies said they were on patrol when 23-year-old Joe Nichols Jr. was spotted driving a 2006 BMW toward Cross Anchor along Cross Keys Highway at Meadow Woods Road Monday night.

Deputies said they pulled Nichols over and asked him if he knew how fast he was going and he replied somewhere between 80 and 90 mph.

When the deputy told him he was going 97 mph, Nichols said he had, "Just felt a need for speed," according to the deputy's report.

Nichols was arrested and taken to the county jail.
