GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Greenwood man was arrested Sunday night after authorities said he was driving drunk with his children in the car.
According to an incident report, someone called and reported a drunken driver, identified as 41-year-old John Sayles, on Highway 246. When deputies arrived, they noticed a white sport utility vehicle changing lanes without using a turn signal, the report said.
The report said that when deputies tried to stop the vehicle, Sayles ignored the lights and sirens until he got to the street where he lived. The report said that when the deputy handcuffed Sayles they smelled a strong odor of alcohol.
According to the report, deputies found Sayles' children, 10 and 12 years old, unbuckled. The report said two bottles of gin were also in the car.
Sayles blood alcohol content level was .22, according to the incident report.
The report said that Sayles license had already been suspended because of a prior driving- under-the-influence charge within the past 10 years.
