Police said an Upstate man left four young children alone in an unlocked car in near-freezing temps for nearly an hour Saturday night.
Spartanburg police said they found the four children ranging from 14 months to 6 years old sitting in an unlocked SUV illegally parked in a handicap spot in front of the Dorman Centre Game Stop.
Police said they arrived to find the kids crying and afraid in the SUV about 7 p.m. Officers said the car was off and temperatures were about 38 degrees and dropping, and some of the children were improperly dressed for the cold weather and complained of being hungry.
After waiting nearly 40 minutes for an adult to check on the kids, police said they went inside the store and found Xavier Wynn, 24, who was the father of three of the children.
Police said Wynn gave conflicting information about how long he had been in the store, who was supposed to be watching the kids and where he lived. Officers said Wynn had been babysitting the children and he said he went to the store to get games for them to play with.
Police arrested Wynn and charged him with neglect of a child. They said the children's mother came and picked them up.
