A Walhalla man was arrested Saturday after police said he stole copper from Clemson University property in Oconee County.

University police said someone stole the metal from transformers at the school's impound lot on Feb. 7, causing about $11,000 in damage.

James Chastain, 46, was charged with committing injury to real property, fixtures or improvements to obtain nonferrous metals in connection with the theft. He was being held at the Oconee County jail on $10,000 bond.
