GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

More rain and snow will return to the western Carolinas on Tuesday, according to FOX Carolina Chief Meteorologist Kendra Kent.

Kent said a strong storm system will spread rain into the region by Tuesday afternoon.

The rain will transition to snow in the mountains by Tuesday evening, Kent said. She said as much as six inches is possible in the highest elevations along the North Carolina - Tennessee state line.

A winter storm watch was issued for Graham, Swain, Jackson, Haywood, Madison, Yancey and Mitchell counties in North Carolina from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening.

Kent said the rain could briefly mix with some snow late Tuesday night in the Upstate of South Carolina, but no accumulation is expected.

The precipitation will end by Wednesday, but black ice will be a possibility in the mountains, Kent said. She said some places in the northern Upstate could also see some slick spots.

Much warmer weather will overtake the western Carolinas by the end of the week. Abundant sunshine will push temperatures into the 60s by Sunday.
