SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police need help tracking down whoever is spraying graffiti across downtown.

Police said a few graffiti tags have shown up within the past week along Magnolia and St. John streets in the middle of downtown Spartanburg.

Officers said they are still looking whether the two most recent tags are related because they were so close to each other, but they said they do not believe the graffiti is gang-related.

"We know that it's not anything that's gang related, cause it's not any of those type of taggings," Capt. Art Littlejohn told FOX Carolina on Monday. "We feel like it's probably some teenagers who had a spray paint can and just started spraying some different places in the city."

Teenagers or not, police said it is a crime.

Recent tags have included the word "Deface" painted on a downtown parking garage and other places and the word "Mersy" on the Magnolia Street building.

Anyone with information is asked to call Spartanburg police or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
