ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The Highway Patrol said it is investigating a crash involving an Anderson police officer Wednesday morning.
The crash happened along East River Street at Franklin Street about 11:30 a.m.
Troopers said an Anderson police cruiser, driven by 25-year-old Matthew Anderson, had flipped into a ditch near the intersection.
Lt. Tony Tilley, spokesman for the Anderson Police Department, said the officer was trapped for a short time and was taken to AnMed Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
Troopers said Anderson was traveling east on River Street when his cruiser was hit by a van making a left turn. They said the crash pushed Anderson's cruiser off the right side of the road, where it flipped.
The driver of the van, identified as 74-year-old George Hitt, of Belton, was charged with failure to yield the right of way in connection with the crash.
A school bus was involved in another wreck minutes before on Williamston Road. Tilley said the officer was responding to the school bus crash when his cruiser was hit.
