CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The search is on for a new head coach after officials said Clemson University's women's basketball coach had been relieved from her duties.

The decision comes at the end of Itoro Coleman's third season in charge of the Tigers where she had an overall 25-63 record and was 10-38 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Tigers lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament to North Carolina State 45-56 Thursday night. This year's young Clemson team finished 9-21 and was 5-13 in ACC play, its most losses since the 2007-08 season.

In a release sent to FOX Carolina on Friday, Clemson's Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich thanked Coleman for her hard work and dedication as head coach.

"She has represented Clemson University with dignity and class, dating to her days as a player," he said. "However, after an evaluation of the program, it is time to make a change. We will begin a national coaching search immediately."

As coach, Coleman coached the Tigers to a major 52-47 victory against the No. 21 North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill last season. Before taking over as head coach, Coleman was an assistant from 2002 to 2007 and then spent three seasons as an assistant at Penn State.

Coleman also played for the Tigers in the 1990s when she was the star player, leading them to four NCAA Tournament appearances and four berths in the ACC Championship game from 1995 to 1999.
