CENTRAL, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Some bats are still hanging out within the roof of a Southern Wesleyan University dorm where students were evacuated from last month, according to school officials.

The spokesperson for SWU said they have inspected and sealed off access points along the Stuart-Bennett Residence Hall roof line where bats have been residing since February. While many of the bats have flown away, officials said some have remained inside because of recent cold weather.

Because of the remaining bats, students remain displaced with no set plans for their return to the dorm. If needed, the school said they will help displaced students with permanent relocation.

Approximately 107 students had to evacuate the residence hall as a result of the infestation. University officials said it was a security measure, as bats can carry diseases.

One-way tubes were installed that prevent the bats from returning after flying away, which officials hope will seal off the area from future bats.
