ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Asheville Fire Marshal said Friday's apartment complex fire that proved fatal was sparked by smoking in bed.

Asheville Fire Department's Fire Marshal Wayne Hamilton said the Windswept Drive condominium fire was ruled unintentional.

He said smoking materials ignited the victim's bedding, setting the upstairs unit on fire about 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

The victim, Deborah Bebber, 62, died from her injuries on Sunday, according to Hamilton.

Firefighters rescued Bebber from the blaze and were able to quickly extinguish the flames, but not before the roof partially collapsed and smoke damage spread to three other units.

Firefighters said no one else was injured.
