GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Proposed rules that may distance food trucks from downtown Greenville sparked a rally for foodies and diners alike to show support behind current and future food trucks.

Rally goers met at The Owl restaurant off of Wade Hampton Boulevard to show support for trucks like Neue Southern and Asada.

A Food Truck Task Force suggested regulations to the Greenville City Council last week that would keep the trucks at least 250' away from brick-and-mortar restaurants, upsetting some who want more dining options in downtown.

"It's a little frustrating when you look at Greenville that has all these articles about how is becoming the new foodie town of the South," said Kensey Boyd, a local food truck vendor. "But yeah, they are putting regulations on the different things that will bring more people more foodies to the city."

Jay Spivey, one of the members of the Food Truck Task Force who was at the rally, said all of the task force members want food trucks in the city and everyone they talked to were in favor of having food trucks in the city, but their job was to look into other cities' food truck regulations to make recommendations for the Greenville City Council.

Other proposed requirements for food trucks are a $500 annual permit fee and food trucks would have to pay hospitality tax, obtain liability insurance, be inspected by the Department of Health and Environmental Control and obtain a city business license.

The city council is expected to address a new ordinance in April.
