SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two Spartanburg County men were arrested  last month in connection with a rash of car burglaries, including break-ins involving law enforcement vehicles.

Master Deputy Kevin Bobo, of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, said 25-year-old Joey Whitworth, of Boiling Springs, and 24-year-old Adam Moore, of Spartanburg, were arrested on Feb. 22 after a surveillance operation in several neighborhoods.

Bobo said the pair was placed under surveillance after tips connected them to several car break-ins dating back to December 2012. They said a search turned up property belonging to the victims, including some police equipment that was stolen between Jan. 20 and Jan. 21 from two cruisers - one belonging to the sheriff's office and the other to the Spartanburg Public Safety Department.

According to incident reports from the January break-ins, a gun, badge, holster, tactical vest, walkie-talkie, binoculars and laser light were stolen.

"Lock your car, and that includes some of the officers in this case, as well," Bobo said. "Because, a majority of car break-ins that we work, the victim's vehicle is unlocked."

Both Whitworth and Moore were each charged with first-degree burglary, grand larceny, 62 counts of car breaking and 34 counts of petit larceny.

Both men are being held in the county jail.
