TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

A Tucson man who shot and wounded a dog walker in 2010 has been sentenced to 7 1/2 years in the Arizona State Hospital.

Pima County prosecutors say 35-year-old Ronald Michael Motisko was sentenced Thursday.

He pleaded guilty but insane to two counts of aggravated assault in February.

Under his plea agreement, Motisko will be under the jurisdiction of the Arizona State Psychiatric Review Board. The board could choose to send him to prison or release him from custody if he no longer requires treatment.

Motisko was accused of shooting a woman in the back on March 1, 2010. He turned himself in to authorities in January 2012.

The Arizona Daily Star says Motisko suffers from auditory hallucinations and paranoia and was hospitalized several times for psychotic symptoms.
