An Upstate mom said Facebook needs to re-evaluate its policy on
breastfeeding photos because some are getting removed, but some moms said the photos are educational, not pornographic.
Carla Engle is a mother of four and has her own page on Facebook dedicated to parenting.
Called "The Primal Parents," the posts talk about everything from midwives to birthing to breastfeeding.
"We post things on breastfeeding and breastfeeding awareness," she said.
But Engle and other breastfeeding groups that she's a part of on Facebook said they're seeing recent problems with their postings - some are being reported as offensive or are removed.
Engle directed us to a site for "This. Milk. Matters." - a page dedicated to breastfeeding, where the group has posted about links and pictures being removed from their page. Engle herself said she's had similar issues with pictures.
"We could have a breastfeeding photo up one night, and we would check on it the next day and it's gone," she said.
Facebook's own guidelines allow posting of breastfeeding photos, so why are they being removed? Facebook told FOX Carolina that they couldn't speak to the specific photos that were removed, but reiterated their statement regarding breastfeeding photos.
Engle is one of more than 5,000 people who have petitioned Facebook to re-evaluate their policy on breastfeeding photos and said that the site needs to look at and consistently enforce those guidelines.
Engle said her page and those like it on Facebook only serve to educate parents.
"We are out there trying to help women who do not have this resource other than our groups - you may be offended, but we're not. We're there to help them achieve their own personal life goals," she said.
