PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -
An Anderson County highway is closed following a crash that took down power lines Friday morning, knocking out power to Wren-area schools.
The Highway Patrol said Highway 86 was blocked at Wigington Road because of the downed lines. Authorities said a car knocked down a power pole at 4:45 a.m.
Troopers said the intersection would be closed until power lines were repaired and removed from across the roadway.
Anderson School District One Superintendent Dr. Wayne Fowler said Wren High, Middle and Elementary schools would be closed Friday because of the outage.
He said Duke Energy told them it would take until about noon to repair the downed lines and get power back on.
A Duke Energy spokesperson said when the crash happened, nearly 1,000 pages lost power, but by 9 a.m., less than 400 customers remained without power though it had been restored to the schools.
She said they expected to have power back on to everyone by 1 p.m.
Troopers said traffic lights in the area were out and drivers should expect to be detoured.
