BELTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters said high winds spread a house fire to the surrounding land Sunday, destroying the home, several cars and burning about one quarter of an acre of land.

Seven local fire departments responded to the house fire on Cannon Bottom Road in Belton on Sunday morning, where they said the lack of fire hydrants and winds made fighting the fire difficult.

"Our biggest concern was if we weren't able to get that under control, we would have a wildfire here," said Anderson County Fire Chief Billy Gibson.

Firefighters said the family was away on vacation when the blaze broke out. Their home and three cars were destroyed, estimated at more than a $1 million loss, according to firefighters.
