COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

After swelling to $320 million for Saturday night's Powerball drawing, someone awoke Sunday a little richer.

The monster top prize was the fifth largest jackpot in the game's history, according to Holly Armstrong, of the South Carolina Education Lottery. The winning ticket was sold in New Jersey, rolling the jackpot over to $40 million.

"When we post a jackpot of this magnitude, it gets attention," said the lottery's executive director Paula Harper Bethea. "Those that don't play very often decide to take a chance, and many first-time players enter the game."

The last time South Carolina sold a jackpot-winning ticket was August 2009, when Solomon Jackson Jr. won $259 million.

Players who match all five white balls but miss the Powerball can win $1 million. There were several $1 million winners for Saturday's drawing, including some in the Carolinas.

The Power Play option, which costs an extra dollar on top of the $2 cost for the ticket, multiplies all winnings, with the exception of jackpots.

The odds of winning the top prize are steep - 1 in 176 million.

Saturday night's top prize creeped in on the record Powerball jackpot of $587.5 million won during a drawing last November.

Officials at the South Carolina Education Lottery said they urge people to play responsibly.
