Annual "Five for Five" 5k to benefit Portland teen fighting leukemia

PORTLAND, CT (WFSB) -

The Portland High School Key Club is organizing the "5 for 5" 5k and kids ½ mile run to benefit Alex Wiezbicki, of Portland, who is suffering from leukemia.

The goal is to raise $5,000 to help defray the hefty medical costs for Alex's family.

Walkers and runners of all ages are welcome to participate.

The event kicks off with the Kids Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. and the 5k begins at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 7. Race check-in is at Portland High School.

There is a pre-entry fee of $20 and $25 on race day. Kids under 11 pay an entry fee of $10. The first 50 people to register will get a T-shirt.
