GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A hotel security guard who investigators said shot and killed a man in the parking lot was charged in connection with the shooting Monday.

The shooting happened about 11 p.m. March 13 at Savannah Suites on Wade Hampton Boulevard.

Investigators said a security guard, identified as 50-year-old Stephen Harry, of Boiling Springs, who was employed by the hotel, responded to the parking lot because of a disturbance. They said at some point, Harry fired at least one shot at a car, killing 28-year-old Ledrekius Sloan, of Greenville.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis said Sloan died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputy Jonathan Smith, spokesman for the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, said that an investigation revealed that deadly force was not the appropriate response to the circumstances that lead to Sloan's death.

In a written statement to FOX Carolina, AP Professional Security, LLC, confirmed that Harry came to the company as an experienced armed SLED-certified officer.
