ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Anderson school bus driver had fallen asleep when the bus hit a tractor trailer Tuesday morning, according to troopers.

The crash happened about 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 81 and the Highway 28 Bypass.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne, of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the truck's driver had stopped at the intersection when the driver of the bus fell asleep and hit the truck.

Anderson County School District Five Superintendent Betty Bagley said three students from Varennes Academy were aboard the bus when the crash happened.

No serious injuries were reported.

Bagley said the crash is under investigation. She said she believes a medical problem caused the driver to fall asleep.

The bus driver was placed on medical leave during the investigation, Bagley said.
